Green Zeolite Aquarium – Ammonia Removal for Tanks & Ponds
Green Zeolite Aquarium is a natural mineral with unique microporous properties that act like a molecular sieve. These tiny pores trap harmful ammonia (NH₃), helping maintain safe and stable water quality in aquariums and ponds. For long-term ammonia control, Zeolite is often used together with biological filtration boosters such as Azoo Plus Ultra Bioguard.
When placed in a tank or pond, it immediately begins adsorbing ammonia ions, storing them inside its micro-pores. Once the pores are full, the Zeolite becomes “saturated” and stops absorbing ammonia. At this point, it should be removed and recharged.
Recharging Green Zeolite Aquarium
Saturated Green Zeolite can be recharged by soaking it in a salt solution (Pond Salt / Sodium Chloride). During this process, sodium ions replace the trapped ammonia ions, restoring the Zeolite’s absorption capacity. Properly maintained Green Zeolite Aquarium can be reused for 4–5 years without losing effectiveness.

When to Use Green Zeolite Aquarium
- To control or remove sudden ammonia spikes.
- During new tank setups while biological filtration is still maturing.
- In hospital tanks or ponds without an active biological filter.
How to Use
- Rinse the new Zeolite to remove dust or loose powder.
- Divide it into portions and place in filter bags.
- Test ammonia levels before adding Zeolite.
- Place half the Zeolite in the last filter chamber or in an area with strong water flow.
- Test ammonia regularly. When removal slows, the Zeolite is saturated.
- Remove and recharge the saturated Zeolite, then replace with the remaining portion.
How to Recharge
- Prepare a bucket of water with Pond Salt (Sodium Chloride) at 100g per litre.
- Soak the saturated Zeolite for a few hours.
- Rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
- Reuse as needed to maintain optimal ammonia control.
